  • Daily application of wart removal medication may be necessary for up to 12 weeks
  • Warts are pale or flesh colored and rough in appearance
  • Warts are not very contagious to other people
  • Warts appear and disappear on their own, but may last for many months (up to 2 years)
  • Be sure the wart is a wart before initiating self-management
  • Warts can be confused with a corn, callus or skin cancer
  • Urgent Care - Have you identified one or more of the following symptoms?
    • Warts change in color, size, or begins to bleed
    • Warts are painful, or warts on the bottom of the feet cause pain when walking
    • Warts develop on face
    • Signs of infection (pain, redness, swelling, fever and/or drainage)
    • Warts are multiplying or spreading
    • Warts appear on genitals or anus

    Self-Management - You can help in the following ways:
    • Try over the counter (OTC) wart removal medication as directed by your Health Care Provider
    • Scrap wart with a pumice stone or sandpaper to remove dead skin
    • Soak in warm water for 10 minutes
    • Apply a footpad to planter wart to ease pain when walking
    • Do not cut away or burn a wart, rather relieve pressure and ease pain
